About Réfrigérateur.ch

Réfrigérateur.ch is an editorial website about domestic refrigeration: choosing an appliance, energy use, maintenance, checks that are safe to do at home, food storage and the occasional lighter story about fridges. Our goal is to answer a real question clearly, without stretching an article merely to reach a target length.

Who signs the articles?

Content is published under the collective byline Réfrigérateur.ch editorial team. This means the website takes responsibility for publishing, maintaining and correcting the text; it is not a claim to replace the expertise of a refrigeration technician, electrician or food-safety authority.

When a task requires diagnosis, opening an electrical assembly or working on the refrigerant circuit, we state the limits of household checks and recommend a qualified professional.

Our editorial method

New articles and pages undergoing a substantive update follow these principles:

1. Answer the question early. Essential precautions and useful steps come before secondary background.
2. Prefer first-party sources. We prioritise Swiss federal offices, SwissEnergy, manufacturer manuals, standards and relevant public bodies.
3. Separate general guidance from model-specific instructions. The appliance manual takes precedence for parts, wattage, clearances and maintenance procedures.
4. Avoid false precision. Lifespan, repair cost and consumption depend on the model and its use; we state useful assumptions and limitations.
5. Link sensitive claims to their sources. References appear in context or in a readable Sources section at the end of the article.

Safety and food storage

Our guides provide general information. They do not replace the appliance manual, professional advice for a particular fault or official food-safety guidance. A damaged cable, burning smell, sparks, refrigerant leak or uncertainty about highly perishable food calls for caution before savings.

For Swiss food-safety rules we primarily use the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office; for energy and environmental information, SwissEnergy and the Federal Office for the Environment.

Updates and corrections

Each article displays its publication date. When a page receives a substantive editorial revision, it also displays a separate updated date, which is included in its structured data.

The site's historical archive is being reviewed progressively. Some older articles may still be longer, less direct or less thoroughly sourced than our current standard. Priority goes to safety topics, changing Swiss information, duplicates and pages that do not properly answer the intent announced by their title.

French, English and German versions

Language versions should preserve the same intent and important facts, but they are not always word-for-word translations. A page without a genuinely comparable counterpart does not show an artificial language link. Return links between translations are also checked so that readers are not sent to a different subject.
